Our Dancers
Alan’s Story
Ok, just a little bit about myself first, I’ve been retired for 5 years ( having been in the fortunate position of retiring at 58 ) former engineer in the Nuclear Industry. Personality wise, which I think is a predominant part of my review… Pretty shy and retiring, certainly introverted and not at all outgoing, unlike my lovely lady ( a former pub landlady who could, quite frankly talk for England)
We attend the Accrington Dances, and have been taking Monday night lessons for just over 2 years now, at the Poplar club.
Given my personality, the thought of dancing was never really at the top of my list of pastimes back then. The thought of my friends and workmates finding out, well I just wasn’t sure.
After three years of sitting on the sofa watching TV, something needed to be done to keep me moving, so we decided to give it a go, and how glad I am for doing so. It’s a great venue, nice dance floor, and full of wonderful friendly people who have made us feel welcome from the start.
The dance team are, honestly, superb, knowledgeable and welcoming and friendly.
The attached photograph is from our first dance weekend (and certainly won’t be our last) at the Skipton Hotel. What I would say to all the men out there is give it a go, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Finally, and most importantly, it’s brought me and my lovely lady closer together, embarking on a shared experience that we both enjoy immensely, we hope we have many years of learning and social dancing ahead of us. So…get out of your PJs, throw a waistcoat on and try it, you won’t regret it.

Alison and the team at Dance Events North West have been absolutely amazing! From our very first lessons — when we literally couldn’t dance a single step — to now confidently dancing the Argentine Tango and Tiffany Saunter, it’s been an incredible journey.
Fantastic people, great exercise, learning loads of new moves, and socialising — there’s truly nothing better. We’re looking forward to many more years of dancing, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Alison and the team to anyone thinking about taking up dance lessons.

We started dancing with DENW and, have to say, we love it! The venue is great and the people are a really friendly bunch.
Alison’s teaching is superb; really clear and easy to follow, great beginning to really lay the fountains for steps and holds used in the various dances. Alison, and all the tutors, are super patient and always eager to help you out with any areas you are struggling with. All this has combined to get us dancing quite complicated dances that we never thought we’d pick up in the time that we have.
The socials are really good too as there are always people willing to help you dance, even if you don’t really think that you can manage it!
I’d recommend DENW to anyone, even if you think dancing isn’t your thing.

After three years of Latin and ballroom dancing, I recently joined Dance Events North West and couldn’t be happier with the move. Alison and her team have created a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment that makes every Sunday something to look forward to.
I’m currently taking part in their 8-week sequence dancing course, and it’s been a brilliant experience. The instruction is clear and encouraging, and my dancing has noticeably improved since starting. I’ve learned several exciting new dances, including the Chico Mambo and Charnwood Cha Cha, which have added fresh energy and variety to my repertoire.
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just starting out, this venue offers a fantastic blend of social connection and skill-building. Highly recommended!

Following the Bury strictly come dancing event I joined the Thursday night dancing.
I love it so much! Alison is a brilliant teacher who breaks it down into components, this makes it easier to learn. We have so much fun and put what we have learnt into practise in the social after our lesson.
If you like dancing and enjoying yourself then come and join us.

Another super evening at Dance Events North West Swinton. Our final lesson of this series and its been fantastic.
Booked our places on next sessions starting in January meanwhile will continue to enjoy the fabulous socials with great music as well as the dances. Had a real trip down memory lane tonight with some songs from the 60’s. Everly Brothers Cathys Clown Yeah!
Alison Park and team you are AMAZING.
